According to actu.fr, a teenager of approximately 15 years old was taken into custody on Tuesday 16 June as part of the investigation into the murder of Jacqueline, 86, committed on Thursday 11 June 2026 in Grau-du-Roi, in the Gard. The young man reportedly confessed, according to France 3 Occitanie.
The victim's body was discovered in late afternoon near a campsite in the seaside resort, a place she frequented each summer. Medical examiners noted extensive injuries to the body: the woman had been slashed before being abandoned on the spot.
During his custody, the suspect reportedly told investigators that he had killed the elderly woman "with blows from a power drill", a confession that matches the initial conclusions of the autopsy, reports Le Parisien.
For several days, law enforcement had searched for the suspect before his arrest. Surveillance cameras reportedly led to his identification. "They showed a young man on a motorbike near the scene", confirms a source close to the investigation cited by France 3 Occitanie.
The investigation was continuing on Wednesday 17 June. The search section of the Gard Gendarmerie as well as the Vauvert gendarmerie company are continuing their investigations to establish all the circumstances of the crime.
