Murder in Grau-du-Roi: 15-year-old middle-school student placed in police custody
According to Google News FR — Crime (fr), a 15-year-old teenager was arrested on Tuesday late afternoon by gendarmes in Grau-du-Roi and placed in police custody. He has since been questioned by investigators from the Nîmes Search Section and the Gard grouping.
The teenager was apprehended as he left middle school after lessons. During the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, searches were conducted at the home of his parents as well as at several other locations in the Petite Camargue. Numerous objects liable to advance the investigation were seized during these operations.
The incident dates back to the previous Thursday, at approximately 7:30 p.m. An 86-year-old woman, who was staying regularly at a campsite in Grau-du-Roi, was fatally assaulted by an unknown assailant. An investigation by the gendarmes was opened immediately.
Several witnesses reported that a young person wearing a surgical mask had been seen near the scene of the incident, apparently washing an object. The same individual was captured by surveillance cameras, in images of poor quality. Other witnesses reported the presence of a young person with a power drill on the walking path running alongside the pond. He is said to have subsequently left the area on a motorised two-wheeler.
The question of whether this 15-year-old teenager is indeed the perpetrator of the fatal assault remains to be established. Investigators must still verify his whereabouts on the day of the crime and analyse the items seized during the searches.
