The public prosecutor has sought 15 years' imprisonment against the main defendant in the murder of Medhi Petit, shot dead in 2020 in Trouville-sur-Mer over a 60-euro debt. Three relatives, accused of altering a crime scene, face acquittal requests.

The prosecution sought a sentence of fifteen years' imprisonment against the main defendant on 18 June 2026, before the Calvados assizes court. Medhi Petit died in 2020 in the seaside town of Trouville-sur-Mer, the victim of a brawl that originated from a financial dispute over 60 euros.
Four people are being tried before the Caen court. The woman suspected of pulling the trigger is being tried for voluntary homicide. Her mother, her daughter and her partner are accused of tampering with a crime scene. The public prosecutor magistrate believes that these three should have been prosecuted for complicity in murder, but the current proceedings prevent any requalification of the facts.
The prosecution regretted the deficiencies of the initial investigation. Decisive evidence is lacking to establish with certainty each person's role in the removal of evidence. No cartridge case was found, making it impossible to identify who caused it to disappear. On this basis, acquittal was sought for the three secondary defendants, whose ages range from 34 to 58 years old. The mother of the main defendant had already appeared before an assizes court in the 1990s for another homicide, before being acquitted.
The defence counsel, Mes Rémi Dutron and Kian Barakat, contest their client's guilt. They identify the latter's mother-in-law, also on the defendants' bench, as the potential shooter. A resident reportedly stated she distinctly recognised the latter at the window through which the projectile was fired. Me Barakat described his client as a "scapegoat", asserting that she was the sole target of the prosecution.
The victim's relatives left the courtroom in protest after the prosecution submissions. They believe that the role of the mother-in-law, already involved in a criminal matter in the 1990s, deserves a heavier sentence.
