Head of France security placed under investigation following Mbappé donation

Mohamed Sanhadji, security and logistics chief for the French national team, has been placed under investigation and subjected to judicial supervision, according to DHnet citing L'Équipe. He had been held in custody earlier in the week.

Sanhadji is a former police officer seconded to the French team since 2004 in the capacity of liaison and security officer. The enquiry leading to this investigation was opened in 2023 following a donation of €60,300 made by Kylian Mbappé. The player had stated he wished to thank him for his role during the 2022 World Cup.

However, investigators considered that this payment might have had other motivations, which led to the opening of judicial proceedings. Sanhadji is now under investigation for "receiving proceeds of misappropriation of public funds, active corruption of a person entrusted with public authority, active trafficking of influence involving a person entrusted with public authority, passive trafficking of influence by a person entrusted with public authority, passive international trafficking of influence, passive corruption by a person entrusted with public authority, fraud and money laundering of tax fraud", according to Le Parisien.

As a direct consequence of this investigation: Sanhadji will not be able to participate in forthcoming France team gatherings. He is prohibited from making contact with the French team staff, current and former players, as well as any person who has been connected to the French Football Federation.
