Rima Hassan files complaint against Minister Nuñez for leaking falsified information
MEP Rima Hassan has filed a complaint against Laurent Nuñez before the Court of Justice of the Republic for breach of investigation secrecy.
False information about detention: Rima Hassan takes action against Interior Minister
According to humanite.fr, the France 2 programme Complément d'enquête, broadcast on Thursday 17 September, reveals that Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez personally circulated false information during the detention of MEP Rima Hassan.
In April, Hassan had been detained as part of an investigation into apology for terrorism. Investigators had then discovered in her bag two sachets containing a white substance, initially identified as 3-MMC, a synthetic drug sometimes referred to as "poor man's cocaine".
This information, despite being covered by investigation secrecy, leaked to the media. According to Complément d'enquête, it was Nuñez himself who confirmed it to several journalists in the bar car of a Paris-Bordeaux train. The substance proved, however, to be CBD, a cannabis derivative whose sale is legal in France.
On news channel broadcasts, the minister at the same time claimed to "regret" these leaks, according to a message posted on X by Hassan herself. "This crude political manipulation has gone on long enough. He must face the consequences and resign," she said.
On Friday 18 September, her lawyer Master Vincent Brengarth announced the filing of a complaint before the Court of Justice of the Republic against Nuñez for "breach of investigation secrecy". The LFI elected representative had already been described as the target of "judicial and political harassment" by five United Nations rapporteurs.
The minister's teams responded that the conversation with journalists was "off the record" and that Nuñez would have "urged them to exercise caution". This version did not convince the MEP's entourage.
