French singer and comedian Patrick Bruel was placed in custody on Monday. The 67-year-old artist faces multiple accusations of sexual harassment from several women, and two new rape complaints have been filed against him in recent weeks.

The Nanterre public prosecutor's office, in the western suburbs of Paris, clarified that Bruel was being questioned in the context of thirteen cases involving alleged victims. The custody interrogation can last up to a maximum of forty-eight hours.

According to magistrates, three women have accused Bruel of sexual harassment and attempted rape. These alleged incidents are said to have occurred in 1997, in 2000 and in 2001. Furthermore, other cases of sexual harassment, harassment and rape are also being examined, following statements from other complainants.

The performer, who has recorded several number-one albums and appeared in more than forty films, denies all accusations against him. His lawyers issued a statement indicating that he would answer all questions from investigators and provide all necessary evidence to demonstrate his innocence.

The singer has cancelled numerous concerts from his tour scheduled for June.
