Drug trafficking in Lille: 18-year-old lookout sentenced to compensate injured police officers
A young adult tried in Lille for drug trafficking has been sentenced to 8 months in prison and must compensate three police officers whom he assaulted and verbally abused.

The facts date back to the evening of 17 August. At around 19:30, police on patrol spotted the defendant near Saint-Vincent-de-Paul hospital, rue Charles-Delesalle, where he was acting as a lookout at a drug dealing point. "Yes, I was keeping watch," he admitted frankly to the judge.

Attempting to flee, the young man seized a bicycle and rode towards a police officer. Both fell to the ground. "He intended to hurt me," the officer later stated, and was able to rely on her colleague's intervention to restrain the fleeing suspect.
The situation escalated rapidly: around twenty people converged on the scene of the arrest, forcing law enforcement to deploy a stun grenade to extract the defendant.
In the police vehicle, the young man insulted the officers, calling them among other things "sons of bitches," and kicked the driver in the face from the rear seat. At the police station, a search revealed ten wraps of heroin and cocaine on him — a fact which he categorically denied despite the judge's insistence, who asked him the question three times.
Already known to juvenile justice services
Despite his young age and a "very youthful" appearance noted in court, the defendant was not appearing for the first time. He had appeared several times before juvenile court for drug-related offences and theft. Upon reaching adulthood in February 2026, he appeared for the first time before a magistrates' court.
The prosecutor emphasized that the defendant "does not realise he is no longer appearing before juvenile court" and requested 4 months of imprisonment coupled with the revocation of a suspended sentence, bringing the total sentence to 8 months.
Eight months on electronic monitoring and €1,600 in compensation
The court followed the prosecution's submissions in full. The defendant was sentenced to 8 months' imprisonment, to be served at home under electronic monitoring. He must also compensate the three police officers who were victims: €800 to the female officer for moral harm, €600 to the colleague who came to assist, and €200 to the third officer whom he insulted in the vehicle.
In his statements to the court, the defendant summarised the sequence himself: "I was at a dealing point near my home. I refused the stop, I resisted and things went out of control with the police."
