The State Police have completed their investigation into a mother's alleged physical and emotional abuse of a minor in Salaspils. The criminal case has been transferred to the Pierīga Prosecutor's Office.

The State Police have completed their investigation into a mother's alleged physical and emotional abuse of a minor in Salaspils, according to 1188.lv. The criminal case was transferred to the Pierīga Prosecutor's Office on 3 September 2026 for the initiation of criminal prosecution.
The investigation began in August 2025 following two complaints from medical staff at an outpatient healthcare facility operating in Salaspils. The employees reported alleged physical and emotional mistreatment of a minor.
Initially, the police initiated two administrative violation proceedings—one related to the alleged causing of minor bodily harm, and another concerning alleged emotional and physical abuse. Following the gathering of additional information, both proceedings were terminated on 28 August 2025 and merged into the criminal case.
During the investigation, several expert examinations were ordered and witnesses were interviewed. The child was placed in a safe environment, and the police informed the guardianship authority of the incident.
The suspect in the case is the child's mother, born in 1995. She had not previously come to the attention of the police, and no precautionary measures have been applied to her.
The criminal case has been classified under Section 174, Part Two of the Criminal Law—for cruel or abusive treatment of a minor resulting in physical or psychological suffering, committed by a person on whom the child is materially or otherwise dependent. This offence carries a sentence of imprisonment of up to three years, short-term imprisonment, or probation supervision.
The State Police remind that a person shall not be considered guilty until their guilt has been proven in accordance with the law.
