Murder case initiated in Druviene, car overturns in Ranka

Google News LV — Crime reports that several serious offences have been recorded in a short period in Gulbene district, including a suspected murder in Druviene.

On the portal "Dzirkstele.lv", a commenter noted that in Druviene a father had allegedly chopped his son with an axe. The State Police have not confirmed this version, but informed that a criminal case has been initiated under Article 116 of the Criminal Law — for intentional unlawful killing of another person, or murder. For this offence, the sentence provided is life imprisonment or deprivation of liberty for five to twenty years, as well as probation supervision for up to three years. "Currently, we will not comment on details about the circumstances of the person's death in the interests of the investigation," said Jūlija Jurāne, senior specialist of the Public Relations Department of the State Police's Latgale Regional Directorate. One person has been detained on suspicion.

On 23 August, in Ranka parish, the driver of a "Toyota" lost control of the vehicle, which slid off the roadway and overturned. Three people were injured in the accident. The State Police have initiated a criminal case and are continuing to clarify the circumstances.

On 22 August, employees of the Vidzeme Regional Directorate noticed a cyclist in Gulbene riding on the pedestrian pathway and performing suspicious manoeuvres. As a result of the inspection, it was established that his breath contained 1.36 per mille of alcohol. An administrative violation case has been initiated.
