Former police officer charged with serious corruption: threatened sex buyers and defrauded prostitutes

A 41-year-old former police officer from Agder police district appeared on Tuesday before Agder district court in a confession case that, according to politiforum.no, contains charges of serious corruption, threats, extortion, misuse of police registers and illegal transfer of money abroad. The incidents took place over six weeks in autumn 2025.
– I have tarnished the police district, the section and the division where I worked, and the authority as a whole. It is naturally extremely painful to expose the most painful and darkest chapter of my life, said the 41-year-old in court.
The man, who now works as a carpentry apprentice, is married with small children. He admitted to the facts, but disputes that the corruption is of a serious nature. He asked the court to take his family into consideration when sentencing.
The beginning: 17,000 kroner in a flat in Kristiansand
According to his own account, the man visited a 39-year-old Chinese prostitute in a flat in Kristiansand centre in September 2025 — alone, in civilian clothes and without ulterior motives, as he put it. His task as an employee of the Department for Immigration Control and Investigation was to verify the residence basis for foreigners in Norway.
The conversation took place via Google Translate. The woman offered twice a "private arrangement" to get him to leave the flat, but he declined both times.
– From police college onwards, it has been crystal clear that it was completely prohibited. I understood that too, he explained.
When the woman made a third offer, he responded anyway. According to his account, the two settled on 17,000 kroner after a brief negotiation, which he himself had initiated by suggesting 20,000.
– Then I threw away all my values, everything I stand for, because I wanted the money. I have regretted it since, explained the former police officer with tears in his voice.
The alarm was raised: Attempted to deceive Filipino woman
In late October, the man contacted a Filipino prostitute whom he knew from his service. He had left his phone at home so as not to be traced, borrowed a phone at a street food stall and called her via the Session messaging app, where conversations are not traceable.
He knew the woman was facing deportation from Norway. He considered whether he could trick her into believing he could help her — in return for payment.
In a phone conversation, which the woman herself recorded and which was played in court, the police officer said:
"Yes, as you probably understand, if you accept help, it is completely legal for you, but not one hundred per cent legal what we do. Therefore we have to be very careful."
The woman rejected any offer. She handed the phone to her boyfriend, and when he said hello, the police officer hung up.
Reported — and chose to lay his cards on the table
The following day, the Filipino woman rang the police control centre. Agder police reported the matter, and on 6 November it reached the Special Unit for Police Cases. Four days later, the unit decided to launch an investigation.
Through an error, the rumour about a suspect police officer reached the man himself. He understood that it concerned him, and chose to confess.
– My first instinct was a desire to get away with as much as possible — turn up to questioning, see what they had, and hide the rest. But I decided that regardless of what they knew and what it concerned, I would explain myself, he explained.
Procedures too lax to stop him
A central point in the court's questioning was why the man repeatedly met the prostitutes alone and in civilian clothes — in direct contradiction to internal guidelines at Agder police about being two.
– If I had not gone alone, this probably would not have happened. That is not an excuse, said the former police officer.
He explained that no one stopped him, and that the procedures for being two were too lenient in practice. The man was, according to his own account, the one at Agder police who had the most contact with the prostitutes, and he contacted them via the Session app, where communication is not traceable.
Ten years imprisonment at stake
District court judge Hilde Kjeksrud conducted a several-hour-long interrogation of the defendant. The man is charged with serious corruption, threats and extortion, misuse of police registers and illegal transfer of money abroad.
He faces up to ten years in prison. The defence has requested a reduction in sentence taking into account his family's situation.
– Everything went wrong in my head after I first accepted money. It was spinning round in my head at night. Gradually I only thought about how I could get more, said the tearful ex-policeman in court.
