Authorities in Warsaw have identified a Moroccan man as the main suspect in the murder of a 21-year-old Polish soldier, which occurred in May 2024 in the area of the Belarus border — according to Yabiladi.
According to the Warsaw District Prosecutor's Office, the victim was stabbed with a knife through the border fence whilst on duty near Dubicz Cerkiewne. The soldier died on 6 June 2024 after several days of hospitalisation.
The investigation lasted two years. During this time, over 140 witnesses were questioned in Poland and abroad. In July 2025, prosecutors formally charged the Moroccan with murder. A domestic warrant was issued against him, as well as a European arrest warrant.
Polish services believe the suspect is currently in Belarus. In December 2025, an extradition request was sent to Minsk, but no response has been received to date. As a consequence, the investigation was suspended on 22 May 2026. The perpetrator's prolonged stay outside Polish territory constitutes the main obstacle to proceeding with the case.
The murder provoked deep outrage in Poland and prompted the government to strengthen security along the border with Belarus.
