The prosecution has brought charges against three police officers in connection with an intervention at a petrol station in Będzin, in Śląskie Voivodeship. According to Google News PL, two officers will stand trial for assaulting a Ford driver and coercing him to leave his vehicle, while a third will face charges of complicity and threatening a witness to the incident.
The incident occurred in autumn 2025. A Ford driver who arrived at the petrol station attracted the attention of bystanders with his uncoordinated behaviour and unsteady gait. Witnesses suspected the man might be under the influence of alcohol or narcotics and attempted to prevent him from driving away. The driver set off regardless. At the request of the petrol station employee, police officers who were present at the location, although off duty, intervened.
Shortly afterwards, a patrol arrived at the station. A sobriety test showed that the Ford driver was not intoxicated. An ambulance crew that examined the man assessed that his atypical behaviour could have a medical basis. Doctors found no grounds for hospitalisation, however.
The prosecution established that the incident ended with the driver being beaten. Two police officers were charged with assault and coercing the man to exit the vehicle. The third officer faced charges of complicity and threatening a witness to the incident. All three accused denied guilt. The commander of the unit in Będzin suspended them from duty, however.
The Śląskie police responded to the case in November 2025, publishing a statement in which they presented a different account of the intervention than that established by the prosecution. The date of the first hearing has not yet been set.
According to information reported by the media, several hours before the incident at the petrol station, other officers had intervened against the same man. They stopped him for a check in a car park following a report of his strange behaviour and suspicion of driving an Audi under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. The sobriety test again came back negative.
The man was unable to respond coherently to police questions. The officers contacted his partner, who explained that the driver's unusual behaviour was due to his illness. The officers then instructed him not to continue driving. The man complied, handed his keys to an acquaintance who appeared at the scene, and was referred for further medical examinations.
