Polish police officers have made one of the largest drug seizures in the country's history. Over one tonne of heroin with a market value close to 52 million euro was confiscated at the port of Gdynia.

Polish police have announced what is one of the largest blows dealt to international drug smugglers in their history. As reported on Monday by the Polish news agency PAP, in Gdynia – a port on the Baltic Sea located near Gdańsk – over one tonne of heroin was confiscated, with a market value of 220 million złoty (approximately 52 million euro).
"This is the largest operation of this kind in over 10 years," Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński told journalists.
According to the statement, in March Polish investigators received information from British colleagues that a drugs shipment was planned from the United Arab Emirates. The narcotic substances were found in shipping containers, where they were hidden underneath decorative paving stones.
In connection with the smuggling, criminal proceedings were initiated against two men and one woman from Poland.
