Poland: Human embryos found in doctor's garden – 57-year-old pathologist arrested
Investigators from Poland recovered remains of human embryos from the garden of a house formerly belonging to a doctor. A 57-year-old woman working as a pathologist was detained in connection with this matter – the PAP news agency reported, citing the prosecutor's office in Rzeszów in the south-east of the country.
The property is located in the village of Lutoryż, approximately twelve kilometres from the city. It was previously owned by the suspect. Current owners discovered vast quantities of medical waste during work in the garden, including paraffin blocks and slides with samples.
"During excavations on the plot these items were discovered. Among the waste were one human embryo and other remains that may come from human embryos in an early stage of development" – a prosecutor's spokesman stated.
The suspect is now being questioned regarding desecration of human remains and illegal disposal of hazardous waste. These charges carry a penalty of between two and twelve years' imprisonment.
