Investigators from Opole have received an opinion from a team of experts regarding the mental state of the teenager who murdered two family members in February. Specialists determined that at the time of committing the crime, he retained full capacity to understand his actions.
The incident occurred at the end of winter in the town of Kadłub. The 17-year-old broke into a house where his relatives were staying. He attacked an 87-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, using tools he found on the premises. The victims died as a result of injuries inflicted with blunt and sharp objects.
The case shocked public opinion not only because of its brutality, but also because of the fact that the perpetrator recorded the incident and shared the material online.
The prosecution commissioned a comprehensive psychological and psychiatric assessment of the suspect. The team comprised two specialist doctors and a psychologist. After a series of meetings and tests, the experts issued an unambiguous opinion.
According to their findings, at the time of committing the act, the teenager was able to assess the nature of his conduct and to act according to his own will. At the same time, certain developmental deviations and personality traits were diagnosed in him, which however do not preclude criminal liability.
As a result, the case will be brought before the court. The defendant faces a sentence of deprivation of liberty of at least fifteen years, and in the most severe variant up to thirty years.
