On Wednesday morning in central Warsaw, near Gdańsk Station, a brutal attack took place on a taxi driver from Azerbaijan. The attacker, who had previously kicked the vehicle's bumper, pulled a telescopic baton from the boot of his own car and attacked the driver. The perpetrator managed to flee the scene, and police are conducting an intensive search.
The incident occurred in the presence of a passenger who was just getting into the taxi. The woman recounts that she had barely finished closing the door and introducing herself when suddenly a stranger ran up to the car. He began shouting obscenities at the driver, then opened the boot of his vehicle and reached for a metal baton.
The attacker struck the victim in the head and arm. The driver tried to shield himself. The frightened passenger screamed and photographed the aggressor and the registration plates of his car. After a moment, the perpetrator put the weapon away, got into his vehicle and drove off.
The woman immediately notified emergency services by calling 112. An ambulance arrived at the scene, and its personnel treated the injured man and took him to hospital for further examination. The driver remained conscious during transport.
Officers from Warsaw's district police headquarters confirmed the intervention. As reported by Junior Sergeant Jakub Pacyniak, the report arrived around 11:30. The patrol checked the identity of both the caller and the injured Azerbaijani citizen.
It has been established that the unknown perpetrator struck the foreigner and then drove away. Officers conducted an inspection, secured evidence and questioned people who had witnessed the incident.
So far, no formal complaint about a criminal offence has been filed. However, police are analysing the collected material and taking further steps to identify the attacker.
The injured taxi driver has been legally resident in Poland for four years and works as a driver. As he recounted to the witness, he had never previously encountered such a situation.
