The district prosecutor's office in Żeszów has launched an investigation into the detained specialist on charges of desecrating human remains and illegally disposing of hazardous waste. According to the Polish Press Agency PAP, a large quantity of medical waste was also found on the property, mainly paraffin blocks and microscope slides, which are typically used in laboratories. Such crimes can result in a sentence of imprisonment from two to twelve years.
The alarm about the discovery was raised by the new owners of the house, who immediately informed police about the materials found in the garden. Multiple operational units are currently working at the scene, and excavation work on the grounds will continue for at least another week. Medical experts have already confirmed that the discovered remains are human embryos in an early stage of development or their fragments, whilst neighbouring sewage systems are being inspected with specialist equipment to ensure no other evidence has been hidden there.
Local residents gave different accounts to the media about the former owner of the house, describing her as withdrawn and rather odd. Some neighbours indicated that she purchased the property two years ago and only sold it to a young couple six months ago. Meanwhile, others claim that the woman had not been seen in the area for approximately five years, though rumours remained in people's memory that she had once conducted autopsies in her home.
According to an official statement from the prosecutor's office, initial information about the discovery of medical waste and human foetuses at this address was received on 10 June. Investigators are still clarifying which medical facilities these materials were removed from and what the exact motive was for the detained pathologist to bury clinical samples and human embryos beneath the house's driveway.
