Man arrested in Lisbon suspected of supplying hashish to Terceira island
Portuguese authorities arrested a 49-year-old man in Lisbon, allegedly linked to drug supply to an island in the Azores archipelago. The operation resulted from cooperation between the Criminal Investigation Department of the island region and a specialised unit combating drug trafficking at national level.
It all began in March, when a 74-year-old foreigner was caught on Terceira with approximately 14 kilograms of hashish. The subsequent investigations, including forensic analyses, led inspectors to identify the presumed supplier of the substance.
With sufficient evidence gathered, magistrates authorised the arrest of the man and a search of his home, operations already carried out. The detainee, who does not have Portuguese nationality, will be heard in court for a decision on any precautionary measures.
The criminal case is under the supervision of the District Public Prosecutor's Office of the Azores, in the Praia da Vitória section.
