Man from Cluj arrested after hitting 5-year-old girl with ATV while unlicensed and intoxicated
A 31-year-old man from Cluj has been arrested for 30 days on a preventive basis after hitting a 5-year-old girl with an ATV in the town of Mera and fleeing the scene.

ProTV reports that a 31-year-old man from Cluj county has been arrested for 30 days on a preventive basis after hitting a five-year-old girl with an ATV on a street in the town of Mera and then fleeing the accident scene.
The incident occurred on a narrow street in Mera where there is no pavement. The girl was walking on the edge of the road with her grandmother when she was hit from behind by the ATV. The man did not stop to provide assistance and attempted to leave, but was quickly apprehended by police.
Following checks, officers established that the suspect does not hold a driving licence for any category of vehicle, and the ATV was neither registered nor licensed. When tested with a breathalyser, the man registered a value of 0.67 mg/l pure alcohol in his breath. Andreea Răchită, press officer for Cluj Police Inspectorate, confirmed that "biological samples were taken from him in order to determine his blood alcohol level".
The girl was transported to hospital and required two days of medical care.
Residents of Mera reacted with concern. "The girl was coming to her grandmother's, and it happened... We were all neighbours outside," said a woman from the area. Another resident added: "I would not want anyone to hit my child either." They claim that the man is from a neighbouring village but used to come frequently to Mera.
A local woman highlighted the risk to which children are exposed: "There are so many children here, and no one would want to be in the parents' situation. It is this great heat, and we keep them inside all day, and in the evening they want to play."
The man is being investigated for driving a vehicle without a driving licence, driving under the influence of alcohol, and leaving the scene of an accident.
