PSD mayor in Timiș sent to trial for failure to recover damages exceeding 150,000 lei
The mayor of Iecea Mare commune, Timiș County, has been placed on the bench of the accused after prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor attached to Timișoara Court ordered his referral to trial. Liviu-Ștefan Tomulea, a member of the Social Democratic Party, is accused of negligence in office, in relation to the failure to recover significant sums from local assets.
According to information published by News.ro, a check carried out by the Court of Accounts uncovered damages exceeding 150,000 lei. This loss resulted from illegal payments made by other persons. Although he had a legal obligation to take action to recover the money, the mayor did not undertake the necessary steps to do so.
The case involves the offence of abuse of office through omission, as the public official failed to perform the duties that fell to him, thereby depriving the local community of the ability to recover public funds. The case has been referred to the court, with judges set to establish whether the mayor is guilty and what sanction should be imposed.
