Bucharest Mayor Placed Under Judicial Control in DNA Corruption Case
The chief administrator of the capital, Ciprian Ciucu, has been placed under judicial control after magistrates at Bucharest Court rejected his complaint. The head of the local administration is the subject of an investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Directorate concerning alleged advantages obtained during the electoral period in autumn last year, according to Profit.ro.
Prosecutors claim that in November 2025, two businessmen offered the mayor promotional and campaign strategy services, benefits estimated at significant sums. In return, the administrator was supposed to approve the necessary documentation for a residential complex in the area he administered at that time. An intermediary allegedly made the connection between the two parties.
Ciucu categorically denies all accusations. He states that he did not receive money and that he did not link the issuing of construction permits to obtaining any benefit. "I did not take a bribe and I did not take backhanders," the mayor declared, specifying that his name would have been used without his knowledge by people who requested funds during the campaign.
Bucharest Court upheld the DNA decision, and the ruling is final. The mayor must comply with a series of restrictions for 60 days: to present himself at the summons of the investigators, to notify if he changes his domicile, and not to leave the area established by prosecutors without approval.
Despite the situation, Ciucu announced that he will continue his activities. "I will hold my head high, I will not avoid public meetings nor direct contact with Bucharest residents. Because I have nothing to hide!", the administrator conveyed. He added that he will prove his innocence and cooperate with the justice system.
Along with the mayor, three other people are under investigation in the same case, all subject to the same judicial control regime.
