newssourcegy.com reports that Police investigators seized more than $455,000 in cash and 78 pounds of marijuana during an operation at Five Mile on the Ituni Road in the Upper Demerara River area on Wednesday.

Ranks from Region 10 received information during the operation that led them to two motorcycles travelling along the roadway without registration plates. Officers gave chase after noticing bulky parcels strapped to the back of one of the bikes.

The rider carrying the parcels was apprehended; the second rider managed to escape. An examination of the parcels revealed $455,180 in cash together with the 78 pounds of cannabis.

The 40-year-old motorcyclist was taken into custody and informed of intended prosecution. His motorcycle was also confiscated. Investigations to locate the second rider remain ongoing, police said in a statement issued Thursday morning.
