Carver Man Faces Hate Crime Charges After Racially Motivated Attack in Kingston

A 46-year-old Carver man was charged with hate crime and assault after allegedly attacking a Black man while yelling racial slurs outside a Kingston convenience store.

Yahoo.com reports that Gary Phillipo II, 46, of Carver, has been charged with hate crime and assault following an alleged attack on a Black man outside a Cumberland Farms convenience store on Main Street in Kingston.

Officers responded to the scene on Tuesday, September 8, at 7:30 a.m. after reports of a fight. The victim told police he was at the gas pumps when Phillipo began yelling racial slurs at him without provocation.

Phillipo then charged at the victim, kicking him, striking him several times, and knocking him to the ground. The victim sustained multiple injuries, including a suspected compound fracture.

Witnesses at the scene confirmed to police that Phillipo had been acting irate and out of control before directing slurs at the victim. Officers later obtained video footage from Cumberland Farms that showed the attack taking place.

Following his arrest, Phillipo was brought to the police station, where he complained of an injury and was transported to a hospital. He continued to behave aggressively, yelling profanity and slurs at officers and staff, and making sexualised comments toward them.

Police noted that Phillipo has a long history of violence.

He has been charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery to intimidate resulting in bodily injury, and disturbing the peace. Phillipo remains in police custody and is due back in court in October.
