Dismembered body of DoorDash worker found in Smyrna apartment; teen charged

A dismembered torso was discovered inside a plastic tub at an apartment complex on Valley Parkway in Smyrna, Georgia, on Wednesday evening, patch.com reports. An 18-year-old resident of the complex, Kingston Bradley, has since been arrested and is being held as a person of interest on a murder charge, in addition to a formal charge of concealing the death of another.

Smyrna Police Lt. Meredith Holt said at a Friday news conference that officers were first summoned to the 4500 block of Valley Parkway around 7 p.m. Wednesday after the family of a missing woman contacted authorities. The responding officer remained on scene for approximately 30 minutes, speaking with relatives and knocking on doors. The family reported that the woman's phone had last pinged inside the complex and that her vehicle was parked in the lot.

The officer directed the family to file a missing persons report with Atlanta Police, as the woman's last confirmed location was in the city of Atlanta. Officers were called back to the complex roughly 30 minutes after the initial officer departed — around 8:15 p.m. — after the woman's body was discovered.

According to Holt, a witness observed Bradley carrying a tote bag and identified which apartment he had exited. The woman's family confronted Bradley, accusing him of "carrying a plastic tub that contained a body." Bradley reportedly fled when he noticed the witness. A dismembered torso was later recovered from inside the tub, according to WXIA-TV, citing court warrants.

The family identified the victim by a tattoo. Though police did not release the identity of the deceased, the family told WXIA-TV that the woman was Shanteria "Tia" Mosely, 26. Mosely had left home intending to work a shift for DoorDash, her family said. Holt confirmed investigators were told she never clocked in or made any deliveries that day.

Inside Bradley's apartment, authorities discovered "several areas of blood staining and a large bloody saw," as well as a mop bucket, mop and carpet cleaner, WXIA-TV reported. An odour of bleach was also detected at the scene.

Cobb County Jail records confirmed Bradley's formal charge of concealing the death of another as of Friday. Bradley, who lived at the complex with his father, is additionally being held in connection with a murder investigation. Bradley's father is being interviewed as part of the ongoing inquiry, Holt said.

Investigators continue to search for additional remains. The official cause and manner of death have not yet been released.

Holt, who has served 20 years with Smyrna Police, described the case as unlike anything the department has encountered.

"This is a shocking crime," Holt said. "I don't know how else to describe it. This is a particularly gruesome crime."
