Google Fiber contractor arrested for stealing explicit video from customer's phone in Irvine

A 37-year-old internet technician was arrested after allegedly forwarding a customer's private explicit video to himself during a Wi-Fi installation. Police say additional victims may exist.

A 37-year-old internet technician has been arrested in Irvine, California, after allegedly using a customer's phone — handed over to "test the Wi-Fi signal" — to send himself a private sexually explicit video, abc7ny.com reports.

According to the Irvine Police Department, the incident took place in early August when a woman had GFiber, formerly known as Google Fiber, install internet service at her apartment. The technician, Logan Edward Gray-McCannon of Hemet, was working as a contractor with ITC Service Group Acquisition — now operating as ASL Intergria — on behalf of GFiber.

During the installation, Gray-McCannon asked to borrow the woman's cellphone to test the wireless connection. She told investigators that after 10 to 15 minutes she went to check on him but was unable to see what he was doing with the device.

The woman later discovered that an explicit video she had previously sent to her partner via text message had been forwarded from her phone to another device through iMessage. Although the message had been deleted from her handset, she found it on her linked iPad. Tracing the phone number associated with the iMessage, she identified the recipient as Gray-McCannon — the same technician who had been in her home.

She filed a report with the Irvine Police Department on 9 September. Officers arrested Gray-McCannon at his home two days later, on 11 September. He was booked into Orange County Jail on charges of commercial burglary, sharing a private sexual image without consent, and unauthorised computer access.

Detectives said evidence gathered during the investigation suggests there may be additional victims, and authorities have released Gray-McCannon's photo to help the public identify him.
