Hit-and-run driver arrested after fatal pedestrian collision in Poolesville, MD

Poolesville pedestrian killed in hit-and-run, Frederick man charged

A 26-year-old man from Frederick has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a Poolesville resident, montgomerycountymd.gov reports.

Travis Edward Lowe was taken into custody on Monday, 21 September, and charged with failure to return and remain at a collision involving death, along with related traffic offences. The victim, 27-year-old Dakota Joseph Grimsby of Poolesville, was struck by a vehicle at approximately 1:51 a.m. on Sunday, 20 September 2026, in the area of 19630 Fisher Avenue and Milford Mill Road.

Officers from the 1st District and Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded to the scene following reports of a pedestrian struck. Grimsby sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

The driver fled westbound along Fisher Avenue toward Elgin Road after the collision. During the investigation, detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police Collision Reconstruction Unit recovered vehicle debris at the scene, which indicated the striking vehicle was likely a 2020–2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 or 3500 pickup truck.

Detectives distributed flyers throughout Poolesville, and a tip from a local resident helped identify Lowe as a suspect. Investigators subsequently located a white Chevrolet Silverado with front-end damage at a business in Frederick, linking Lowe to the collision.

Lowe was arrested in Frederick County and transferred to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, where he is awaiting a bond hearing. The Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate and has indicated the process may take several weeks to months to complete.
