Memphis woman confesses to fatal abuse of toddler, charged with first-degree murder

A 29-year-old Memphis woman has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect following the death of a 3-year-old boy, wbrc.com reports.

Dominica Mosby, the girlfriend of the child's father, was arrested after a 911 call was made last Saturday when the father discovered the boy unresponsive at a residence. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mosby initially told police she had put the boy to bed after he fell ill. She later confessed to homicide investigators that she had inflicted severe abuse on the child — including placing a lit cigarette in his ear and burning his genitals after he urinated on the floor.

She also admitted to repeatedly beating the boy, stomping and striking him on his torso and chest when he failed to obey her.

The medical examiner ruled the cause of death a homicide. An autopsy revealed lacerations to the liver, internal bleeding in the stomach, bruising across the torso, and burns to the ear and genitals.

The child's aunt told investigators she had previously noticed injuries on the boy.

Mosby is currently held without bond and awaits her next court appearance.
