A 29-year-old Memphis woman has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect following the death of a 3-year-old boy, wlox.com reports.

Dominica Mosby, identified as the father of the child's girlfriend, was taken into custody after the boy's father called 911 when he found the toddler unresponsive at a residential address last Saturday. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mosby initially told police she had put the boy to bed after he fell ill. She later admitted to homicide investigators that she had subjected the child to severe abuse. Court records state she placed a lit cigarette in his ear and burned his genitals after he urinated on the floor. She also admitted to repeatedly beating, stomping and striking the boy on his torso and chest when he did not comply with her demands.

An autopsy conducted by the medical examiner confirmed the cause of death as homicide. Findings included lacerations to the liver, internal bleeding in the stomach, bruising across the torso, and burns to the ear and genitals.

The child's aunt told investigators she had previously noticed injuries on the boy.

Mosby is currently being held without bond while awaiting her next court appearance.
