Montreal commercial building hit by arson for third time in three weeks

A commercial building on Jean-Talon Street in Montreal's north end has been targeted by suspected arson three times in under three weeks. No arrests have been made.

A commercial building on Jean-Talon Street near 22nd Avenue in Montreal's north end has been struck by suspected arson for the third time in less than three weeks, Global News Crime reports.

Police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant says officers responded to a call at around 4:10 a.m. and arrived to find a fire at the business that had already spread through the structure, prompting evacuations from the second and third floors.

Investigators found traces of an accelerant after the fire was brought under control, leading them to suspect arson. Brabant says all three floors of the building are considered damaged beyond repair, though no casualties were reported.

The same location had previously been targeted in an attempted arson on Aug. 30, and again the following day, when a suspect allegedly smashed a window and threw an incendiary object inside the building.

No arrests have been made in connection with any of the three incidents, Brabant says, and all three investigations remain ongoing.
