A 32-year-old man has been charged after a Vancouver convenience store clerk was shot in the leg during an apparent robbery on Sept. 6. Surveillance video captured the shooting near Main and 16th.

Surveillance footage from a Vancouver convenience store shows a clerk sitting behind the counter speaking to a man in the doorway moments before the suspect shoots him, winnipegfreepress.com reports citing The Canadian Press.

The gun is not visible in the video, but a muzzle flash appears at hip height. The clerk grabs his right leg and hobbles away. The suspect then pushes the door open and walks off without raising his arms.

The shooting took place on Sept. 6 at a store near Main Street and 16th Avenue in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. Police say it was a robbery.

Vancouver police have charged Victor Sorensen-Avila, 32, with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. The department says Kamloops RCMP contacted them the same day as the shooting to report that Sorensen-Avila had been arrested in the B.C. Interior in an unrelated matter.

The clerk suffered serious injuries. Investigators used the surveillance footage along with other evidence to identify Sorensen-Avila as the suspect.

Sorensen-Avila remains in custody in Kamloops pending a bail hearing.
