A Bolivian court has ordered the preventive detention of Rolando R. J. in Palmasola prison in Santa Cruz whilst extradition proceedings to Brazil are processed. According to El Deber, Brazilian justice requires him for international drug trafficking and criminal organisation offences.
Rolando was captured on 4 September in the Las Palmas neighbourhood in Santa Cruz following activation of an Interpol red notice at the request of Brazilian authorities. The Controlled Substances Prosecutor's Office presented him before a court and requested his imprisonment during the extradition process.
Judge Miriam Flores Baltazar ordered him to remain in Palmasola until legal proceedings conclude and his extradition to Brazil is decided.
The Special Force to Combat Drug Trafficking (Felcn) links the detainee to the discovery of approximately one tonne of cocaine hidden in a shipment of almonds, found in November 2024 in Santa Cruz. In that operation, anti-drugs agents raided an export company located in the Guapilo Canal zone and found 70 cardboard boxes of almonds, of which 53 contained cocaine-impregnated product.
Felcn experts determined following tests and weighing that the shipment totalled approximately one tonne of drugs destined for export.
The Felcn stated that the case maintains several individuals under investigation, among them individuals with alleged links to former municipal officials, an aspect that authorities continue to investigate.
