Death of young woman found with gunshot wound to head in Sacaba investigated as femicide
The death of Kelly Nicol Jaita Claure, aged 19, is being investigated as a possible femicide in Sacaba, Cochabamba, according to El Deber. The young woman was found dead in OTB Quintanilla Sud with a wound apparently caused by a firearm to the head.
Personnel from the Special Force to Combat Crime (Felcc) attended the premises after receiving an alert about the presence of the body. The officers confirmed that Kelly showed no signs of life and verified the head injury.
The Homicide Unit and Public Ministry conducted the legal removal of the corpse, which was transferred to the Institute of Forensic Investigations (IDIF) for medical-legal autopsy. The result of this procedure will determine the exact cause of death and provide elements to reconstruct the sequence of events.
As part of the initial proceedings, two persons were arrested. Among them is a man identified as Luis, identified as the victim's partner. The apprehension is investigative in nature: the authorities have not yet filed a formal charge against him and it must be established whether he had any involvement in the death.
The Special Force to Combat Violence (Felcv) is also intervening in the investigation and is preliminarily pursuing the femicide hypothesis.
Kelly's mother waited outside the IDIF whilst forensic procedures were being carried out. In tears, she recounted that her daughter's partner presented himself at her home during the early morning hours. "Her boyfriend came to my house at 3 in the morning and took her away. When I called her she did not answer and this morning they told me she was here, but they did not give me any more information," the woman stated.
The testimony will be incorporated into the investigation to reconstruct the young woman's final hours of life.
Police and the Public Ministry continue taking statements and collecting evidence with the aim of determining the circumstances of the death, establishing the motive and identifying possible persons responsible.
