Bolivia's General Public Prosecutor's Office has formalised charges against Argentine political consultant Fernando Cerimedo for domestic or family violence, according to telesurtv.net. The measure, backed by Law 348, includes a request for preventive detention at Chonchocoro prison.
"Mr Cerimedo has been charged with domestic or family violence (…) in this case Chonchocoro", declared Attorney General Roger Mariaca, confirming the judicial resolution.
The charges were based on statements from Nadia Beller, Cerimedo's ex-partner, and materials gathered during the investigation, which were considered sufficient to support the complaint. Beller, who was pregnant at the time of the attack, described the events from the hospital where she remains convalescing. Her testimony was incorporated as key evidence in the case file.
Cerimedo has been detained at Chonchocoro since 18 August, the date he was arrested after being accused of having hired hitmen to murder his ex-partner. The case led to additional charges linking him to disinformation strategies, networks linked to drug trafficking, and alleged fraud involving political authorities.
Investigations also point to the involvement of political figures, including President Rodrigo Paz and his wife, who allegedly played an active role in operations attributed to the defendant. Alleged attempts at conspiracy against the physical integrity of former president Evo Morales are also mentioned.
Pending is the seizure of digital information found on the detainee's electronic devices. These materials will be presented at a hearing scheduled for 10 October, where their evidentiary value will be assessed.
Cerimedo's preventive detention responds not only to the current charges of domestic violence but also to proceedings opened for illicit enrichment and other irregularities, which reinforces his confinement in a maximum security facility.
