Fernando Cerimedo, the controversial Argentine former adviser to Bolivian president Rodrigo Paz, was transferred in the early hours of Tuesday from Palmasola prison in Santa Cruz to Chonchocoro prison, located on the outskirts of Viacha, in the suburbs of El Alto, according to expressnews.com.
The operation was carried out with a substantial police deployment. Cerimedo, who was also an adviser to Argentine president Javier Milei before becoming involved in Paz's campaign, faces two open legal cases in Bolivia.
The first charge dates from August, when he was detained for alleged attempted femicide following a shooting attack against his former partner Nadia Beller. For that case he was serving a detention order in Palmasola.
The second accusation, for alleged illicit enrichment, emerged after cash and technological equipment were found at his residence in La Paz. A judge then ordered his detention in Chonchocoro, which prompted the transfer.
President Paz has attempted to distance himself from Cerimedo and declared that there was no formal employment relationship with him. However, local media circulated images of the adviser alongside the president at public events.
