Bolivia deploys military in San Ignacio de Velasco following four murders in 24 hours
Bolivia reinforced its military presence at the border with Brazil following four homicides in less than 24 hours. Two victims were killed during a live TikTok broadcast.
Military and drones at border following wave of homicides in San Ignacio de Velasco
According to qznoticias.com, the Bolivian Government deployed military personnel and special forces to San Ignacio de Velasco, a city near the Brazilian border, from Tuesday onwards following four shooting deaths recorded between Sunday and Monday.
The operations include ground patrols and the use of drones. The Police and Public Prosecutor's Office are investigating whether the crimes are related to drug trafficking or disputes between criminal organisations.
The most significant incident occurred on Monday: two young people were conducting a TikTok broadcast from a residence to offer products when two foreign men broke into the place. According to initial investigations, the attackers photographed them and then shot them. Both victims died on the spot; the identity of the attackers and the motive for the attack remain under investigation.
The other two homicides took place on Sunday, also in San Ignacio de Velasco. All four victims were shot in their homes within a period of just over 24 hours.
In response to the succession of events, the Defence Minister, Ernesto Justiniano, coordinated the deployment of military reinforcements—among them the special unit F10—and additional police officers to increase state presence in the area.
