Prosecution Archives Case Against Wilfredo Chávez Over Contracts Worth Bs 5.3 Million
The Procuracy challenged the prosecutor's rejection of reopening the case against former prosecutor Chávez over 10 questioned contracts. The amount involved totals Bs 5,367,000.
Procuracy Objects Filing of Wilfredo Chávez Case Following Prosecution Rejection
The Prosecution rejected the request to reopen criminal proceedings against former prosecutor Wilfredo Chávez, despite the Procuracy General of the State having requested in April of this year that investigations be resumed concerning 10 contracts questioned during his administration.
According to El Deber, prosecutor Hugo César León disclosed the situation on Monday in a contact with journalists in La Paz, after submitting a formal objection to the Public Ministry.
"We have very solid arguments and very important evidence; that is why we are objecting to prosecutor Molina's ruling which again rejects the complaint and orders the case to be filed," León said.
The prosecutor stressed that the questioned contracts total Bs 5,367,000 and that the investigation cannot be dismissed under those circumstances. "This at the very least has to be investigated, it cannot be rejected in that manner," he affirmed.
León clarified that there were 10 contracts signed by Chávez, and that the case was initiated by the previous administration of the Procuracy, which referred it to the Public Ministry. "All we did was fulfil our obligation and request that the investigation be completed," he added.
The Procuracy now hopes that the departmental prosecutor will revoke the decision and order the continuation of investigations.
