Criminal investigators are uncovering a network that transported chemical substances used to manufacture addictive drugs into the Czech Republic. The operation was directed against several individuals involved in smuggling raw materials from Poland. During one of the actions, police officers had to face dangerous driving when one of the suspects attempted to escape.
According to iDNES.cz, the man at the wheel sharply accelerated upon spotting the patrol. His vehicle reached speeds of up to 240 kilometres per hour. In this manner, he was attempting to prevent his capture, which endangered other traffic participants.
The investigation points to organised activity, in which the smuggled chemicals were to be used for drug manufacturing on Czech territory. Police charged several individuals in connection with this case. The case demonstrates the cross-border dimension of the drug trade and the need for international cooperation in combating it.
