A man accused of murder by arson appeared before a court in Karlovy Vary. In October 2023, a residential building near the station in Mariánské Lázně went up in flames. During the fire, fifty-eight-year-old Andrej P. died; due to a mobility impairment, he was unable to leave his attic flat on his own.
According to the indictment, the accused set fire to bundles of textiles and petrol. The flames spread quickly and engulfed the entire building. The victim remained trapped in his flat and perished.
