The Versailles Court of Appeal has confirmed that Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi of PSG will stand trial for rape before a criminal court. The decision was made during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Versailles Court of Appeal confirmed on Friday that Moroccan footballer Achraf Hakimi will stand trial for rape before a criminal court. The decision was made during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, whilst the defender was playing his second match against Scotland in Boston, United States.
In a statement, the Court of Appeal indicated that sufficient evidence existed against the player to justify his committal to the criminal court of Hauts-de-Seine. This decision follows the ruling handed down at the end of February by the investigating judge, against which the accused had appealed.
The trial date is not yet known. On social media platform X, the Moroccan defender responded by stating: "I have been waiting for this trial since day one. And now I am increasingly impatient. Finally, I will be able to speak."
According to the prosecution, Hakimi allegedly raped a 23-year-old young woman at the end of February 2023. The victim claims to have met the footballer on Instagram in January 2023, then travelled to his residence by chauffeur-driven car. She alleges that the PSG player kissed and touched her against her will and then raped her. The young woman claims to have eventually managed to push him away and leave the premises with the help of a friend who had been alerted by text message.
The Moroccan player was formally placed under investigation in March 2023 and placed under judicial supervision.
