Kakuetta trial: new date following initial postponement
The court in Pau will examine on 26 November next the case relating to the death of Julie Coudoumié, which occurred on 31 July 2020 in the Kakuetta Gorges, according to Google News FR — Crime (fr). The hearing, originally scheduled for 8 October, was postponed due to "logistical constraints and resource limitations that did not permit the proper conduct of the hearing", according to a letter sent to the family in mid-August.
Julie Coudoumié, 31 years old, had been killed by a falling stone while she was using the path through the gorges. According to the investigation findings, in the moments preceding her death, she had pushed a four-year-old child away to put her out of danger.
The Sainte-Engrâce local authority, which manages the tourist site, was referred to court for involuntary manslaughter by negligence. Her father, Jean-Michel Coudoumié, who has been waiting for this trial for six years, was informed of the new hearing date. He had spoken publicly after the initial postponement to express his bewilderment at the additional delay.
