Murder in Évreux: a lieutenant of Mohamed Amra tried at Eure assizes

Exceptional security measures for the trial of an associate of Mohamed Amra
According to Google News FR — Crime (fr), a hearing under heightened security opened on Thursday at the Eure court of assizes in Évreux. Jean-Charles Preira, 31, is being tried until 11 September for the murder of a young Chechen man, 27, committed on 25 September 2020 in the Madeleine district.
The accused is presented as one of the lieutenants of Rouen drug trafficker Mohamed Amra. The two men grew up in the same district of Évreux. Preira had previously been sentenced to seven years in prison for the robbery of a cigarette lorry in 2018.
His profile explains the scale of the security measures put in place around the courthouse: district sealed off, reinforced checks at the entrance and surrounds of the courthouse, and presence of ERIS — the regional intervention and security teams — in the courtroom, tasked with monitoring the accused and preventing any potential tensions amongst the public.
The victim had been killed by a bullet in the back during a brawl between members of African and Chechen communities. The investigation led to Preira's arrest in 2022 in Marbella, Spain. Mohamed Amra's fingerprints had been found in the vehicle used by the accused to flee to the Iberian peninsula.
Preira is further suspected of having participated, from his cell, in organising the deadly escape of Mohamed Amra, nicknamed "the Fly". This escape resulted in two deaths at the Incarville toll station, in Eure, in May 2024. The trial is scheduled to continue until 11 September.
