Quadruple family murder in Gy, Haute-Saône: two children among the victims
Four members of the same family were found dead in Gy, including two children aged 6 and 9. The father is suspected of having filmed the events before turning the weapon on himself.
Four dead in Gy: father suspected of shooting his children and mother-in-law
Four bodies were discovered on Wednesday evening in the village of Gy, in Haute-Saône, within the same household. Among the victims are two children aged 6 and 9, their father and their maternal grandmother. According to France Info, investigators suspect the father of having shot his relatives with a rifle before turning the weapon on himself.
The family lived in a mobile home parked near their house under construction. It was on this land that gendarmes discovered the bodies on Wednesday evening, then continued their investigations the following morning, in a frozen atmosphere of interrupted daily life.
Gunfire heard throughout the neighbourhood
Several village residents reported hearing gunshots in the evening. "We heard shots. My wife says to me: 'There's a shutter that banged', I said there was no wind. It was the rifle shots. And it was after that lots of cars arrived," testified a neighbour.
Gy has barely 1,000 inhabitants. The violence of the events caused a profound shock in this rural municipality of Haute-Saône.
Father in separation proceedings, allegedly filmed the scene
According to the father's entourage, he was in separation proceedings with his companion at the time of the events. He allegedly filmed the scene and sent the images to the children's mother. An investigation was opened for voluntary homicide.
The two children, aged 6 and 9, were enrolled at a school in the village. From Thursday morning onwards, parents and pupils gathered outside the establishment, in shock. "The sadness already for all these people, and the family that remains," confided a man interviewed on the spot.
Psychological support cell deployed at the school
A psychological support cell was set up at the school attended by the two children. Catherine Ridard, academic inspector for Haute-Saône, described a difficult morning for the educational teams: "It is a difficult morning (…) We listen, we provide support. The aim is to be able to welcome discussion and support everyone."
The investigation, entrusted to the gendarmes, continues to establish precisely how events unfolded and the exact circumstances of the tragedy.
