An accident on Saturday evening in the car park of the Rabaterie shopping centre in Saint-Pierre-des-Corps triggered a night of urban violence, according to ici.fr. A national police car collided with a young man riding a motorcycle.
The motorcycle driver was seriously injured in the leg. However, his life is not in danger, and he was transported to hospital, according to available information. The Indre-et-Loire prefecture and the mayor of the municipality both confirmed the facts.
In the hours that followed, mortar fire broke out in the district and several cars were set alight before midnight. Reinforcements of police forces, notably riot police, were dispatched to the scene, as confirmed by the prefecture.
On the municipality's Facebook page, the mayor, along with the political groups "Saint-Pierre Autrement" and "The United and Ecological Left", published a call for calm whilst vehicles were still burning in the district. The family of the injured young man joined this appeal. The mayor clarified that he travelled to the hospital, accompanied by other elected officials, to check on the motorcyclist.
Around midnight, another car fire was reported in the Sanitas district in Tours. Firefighters who attended the scene had to leave after a few minutes due to further mortar fire, according to findings by ICI Touraine.
This Rabaterie district had already been the scene of tensions in May 2026, when the national police intervened to end an urban stunt-riding event, an action described as a "demonstration of totally disproportionate force" by an opposition municipal elected official.
