A woman in her fifties was killed by multiple knife wounds at around 5 o'clock in the morning on Monday 21 September in Céret, in the Pyrénées-Orientales. According to lindependant.fr, her 15-year-old son, who disappeared from the home at the same time, threw himself from the road bridge in the town.
The Perpignan Prosecutor, Jérôme Bourrier, confirmed the facts several hours after the tragedy: "A woman died from multiple knife wounds." He clarified that, "at the same time, her 15-year-old son disappeared from the home and is said to have thrown himself from the Céret bridge where he was taken into care by the emergency services."
Intervention of the Dragon 66 helicopter
The young man was rescued thanks to the intervention of the Dragon 66 civil security helicopter, which transported him to the hospital centre. A witness, passing through the area around 6:55 a.m., described the scene to lindependant.fr: "There was the gendarmerie and the fire service with the helicopter that passed several times. Everything started to get moving around 7:30 a.m."
Early in the afternoon, the Perpignan public prosecutor's office provided an update on the son's state of health: his prognosis is "no longer critical", but he would nevertheless have to undergo surgery.
Husband and second child absent at the time of the facts
Prosecutor Bourrier also indicated that the victim's husband and the couple's second child "were not present at the time of the facts" and "arrived at the home after the events."
An investigation for voluntary homicide was opened, entrusted to the Gendarmerie's Research Brigade in Céret, jointly with the Research Section. "The duty magistrate from the public prosecutor's office went to the scene," the prosecutor clarified.
