Le Coteau: 40-year-old man arrested in connection with murder of nonagenarian

Investigators have made significant progress in the case of the violent death of an elderly woman living in the commune of Le Coteau, near Roanne (Loire). A 40-year-old man was taken into police custody on Tuesday morning in connection with this criminal case.

Françoise Galichet, 90, lived in a modest building on Jean-Jaurès Street. On Saturday 30 May, family members, alarmed by her failure to respond, entered her flat. They discovered the lifeless body of the elderly woman lying in her bed. Medical examination revealed several sharp wounds to the neck, confirming a deliberate act of violence. The investigation was thus reclassified from a search into the causes of death to one of murder.

The suspect, aged 40, was arrested in the commune of Le Coteau itself. According to details provided by the Roanne prosecutor's office, there is no family relationship between him and the victim, and no prior contact has been identified between the two persons. It was the presence of his fingerprints at the crime scene that enabled investigators to trace the case back to him.
