The juvenile court in Limoges handed down its decision on appeal on Tuesday 16 June in the case of the death of Inès Hammioui. The defendant, a teenager, has received a sentence of 20 years' imprisonment, the maximum penalty provided for young offenders, for stabbing to death this 15-year-old girl.
The tragedy occurred on 13 December 2024, in a wooded area of Isle, near Limoges, in the Haute-Vienne department. The boy, then aged 15 like his victim, was a classmate of the young girl. He had persuaded her to meet him by leading her to believe he wished to give her a jewellery box on behalf of an acquaintance. His true objective was to steal her mobile phone.
When the girl attempted to cry out for help, the young man inflicted approximately forty stab wounds upon her. He was carrying the knife in order to intimidate her.
The sentence handed down on Tuesday is the same as in the first instance. The defence lawyers had appealed on grounds of a procedural irregularity, as the minor's lawyer had not been present at the first trial. The court therefore upheld the heaviest penalty applicable to a minor.
