A 39-year-old man was referred before an investigating judge on Sunday in connection with the knife murder of a 29-year-old woman and her two-month-old daughter, found dead on Thursday in an apartment in Drancy, Seine-Saint-Denis, according to 20minutes.fr.
The Bobigny public prosecutor's office requested his remand in custody. The questioning is being conducted "for the purposes of opening judicial proceedings on charges of murder by a person who was a former partner of the victim and murder of a minor under 15 years of age", according to the prosecutor's statement.
The investigation established that the suspect had previously maintained a romantic relationship with the victim. Analysis of his phone records made it possible to place him in the vicinity of the scene at the time of the offence. Apprehended in possession of personal effects belonging to the mother, the man nevertheless denied any involvement during his questioning.
A second person placed in police custody, the victim's ex-partner, was released without any charges being brought against him.
It was the sister of the murdered woman who alerted the police after discovering the bloodied bodies, according to a police source. The victim was originally from Haiti. The two bodies were found in the Drancy apartment, a town located north-east of Paris.
