A 39-year-old man was brought before an investigating judge at Bobigny tribunal on Sunday for the stabbing murder of a 29-year-old woman and her two-month-old daughter, committed on Thursday in Drancy (Seine-Saint-Denis), according to sudouest.fr.
According to the Bobigny prosecutor's office, the suspect had "previously had a romantic relationship" with the victim. Analysis of his telephone records made it possible to establish his presence near the scene at the time of the incident. He was furthermore arrested in possession of personal effects belonging to the mother, but contested any involvement during his questioning.
The prosecutor's office is requesting his remand in custody. He is being prosecuted for murder by a person who had been the victim's spouse, as well as for murder of a minor under 15 years old, within the framework of the opening of judicial proceedings.
A second person had also been placed in police custody: the victim's ex-partner. He was released without any charges being brought against him.
The bodies of the mother, who was originally from Haiti, and her two-month-old infant were discovered on Thursday in an apartment in Drancy, a town located north-east of Paris. It was the victim's sister who alerted the authorities after finding the two bloodstained bodies.
