This decision was rendered despite the prosecutor's request for a sentence of eighteen months' imprisonment with a suspended execution.
This case is part of a broader context of suspected violence in Paris schools. Since the beginning of 2026, seventy-eight staff members working in schools in the capital have been suspended. Among them, thirty-one have been suspended on suspicion of sexual assault on minors.
The prosecutor's office therefore chose to challenge the verdict before a higher court, presumably considering that the evidence gathered warranted a conviction. The appeal will allow for a re-examination of all the facts and evidence in the case.
