Over 200 criminal investigations opened for violence in Parisian schools
The Paris public prosecutor's office is recording 203 criminal investigations underway targeting nurseries and schools in the capital. Since the beginning of 2026, 147 additional complaints and reports have been registered.
Violence in school settings: 203 active criminal investigations in Paris
The Paris public prosecutor's office confirmed to BFM TV that 203 criminal investigations are currently underway concerning incidents of violence in schools and out-of-school structures in the capital — information revealed just hours before the school term begins.
Among these cases, 143 investigations target nursery schools and 36 target primary schools. The public prosecutor's office is furthermore recording 24 investigations concerning nurseries. In total, 47 cases have been dismissed.
Five cases are currently pending before the 15th correctional chamber of the Paris judicial tribunal, a chamber specialised in handling cases involving minor victims. A sixth case is being examined by the 26th chamber, which is competent in family criminal law. Six cases are meanwhile the subject of ongoing judicial investigation.
Since the beginning of 2026, the public prosecutor's office has recorded 147 complaints and reports related to schools: 125 during the first half of the year, and 22 in July and August. "As August is not yet over, the figure could be revised," the public prosecutor's office notes.
These figures are being made public as the city of Paris has been facing a series of reports of violence in the out-of-school sector for several months.
